Tuesday Oct 24, 2023
What would you do, if someone told you they found God in a Sunset? Today we tackle the curious case of the spiritual-but-not-religious. We look at one take on this phenomenon, and find ourselves asking: what do we do about these people? What does it mean for my faith? How should we SBNR's? and do they deserve to be alive? (the answer is yes by the way....)

Tuesday Sep 05, 2023
RE-RELEASE - we come back one last time to our what is religion series. Hope you enjoyed this old classic, and we will be back with a new episode next week!
-------------
This week we salt our water, cook our meatballs nice and low, and delve deep into the Loose Cannon.
Jamal introduces Jacob to the holiness of pirates, the wearing of colanders, and the Devine Carbohydrate.
All of this takes us further down the cannelloni hole of trying to understand 'what is a religion?'

RE-RELEASE: What is Religion? - Part 1

RE-RELEASE - while Jamal is away on holiday we are going back and re-engaging with our 'what is a religion series'. Enjoy!
------
This week we go academic! And try to decipher what even is religion?
how do we define religion? How does this impact our interaction with religion? Does it even matter?
This week's article is from a book: https://booko.com.au/9780300216783/Before-ReligionA-History-of-a-Modern-Concept
Who let these guys in?
Jamal Blakkarly:
After realising that 99% of what he believed in philosophically was kinda Buddhist anyway, and then going on a way-too-intense mediation retreat, Jamal became a Buddhist in his early 20's. He has spent time in monasteries around the world, and practises mainly in the Theravada Thai Forrest tradition, with a bit of Zen thrown in for good measure.
Jacob Traeger:
Jacob grew up in a Christian family, but when he got to uni faith seemed less relevant to him. Through a non-Christian friend, God pulled him into a faith community where he could ask all sorts of questions: is belief rational? Did Jesus really exist? Does God care about my life? He’s convinced that life is better when God’s a part of it, and now he’s finishing a theology degree and leading a new church community in Canberra.
